Modern or Traditional
What type of kitchen is your type?
We could say that there are two main types of kitchens: Modern and Traditional.
A Modern Style Kitchen has a more 'contemporary style' and uses Slab (plain doors).
A Traditional Style Kitchen has an element of timelessness. It uses Shaker style (doors with a frame).
Whether Modern or Traditional, each style has variations so you can personalise your kitchen door style to suits you. E.g:
DOORS
Modern
A) Handleless door (with a recess profile built into the unit)
B) 'J' profile built into the door (to pull the door)
C) Slab door with a Handle
Traditional
A) SHAKER DOORS
B) IN -FRAME DOORS
For all of the above there is a number of choices for the different colours, finishes, textures and type of built.
CABINETS
Cabinets typically are made of MDF. Good quality MDF is denser, therefore heavier, sturdier and more durable.
Then there is Plywood with veneer wood, which is stronger and inherently more aesthetically pleasing than MDF,
because it shows the wood grain.
HANDLES
There are many handles and knobs that vary in design, material, finish and colour.
Choosing the right one to match the door style is the fun part when choosing your kitchen.
WORKTOPS
Arguably one of the best material for worktops is Quartz but is costly. at the other end is Laminate.
Both are almost maintenance free. Then there are products that need a bit more care such as Granite or Composite such as Corian and Minerva. The most rentable product is solid wood. It is beautiful but it requires regular maintenance (oiling) to protect it/
ACCESSORIES
Accessories include Splash backs, bins, pull- out mechanisms. Choosing the right ones for you will make a difference in terms of functionality.
APPLIANCES
There are dozens of suppliers, makes and features for appliances. I can help you with this potentially confusing process of selecting the correct appliances for your kitchen.
